The village of Gusen

The former concentration camp Gusen I + II was one of the biggest concentration camps in Austria and is nearby the concentration camp of Mauthausen. The complex was situated on the territory of the villages St. Georgen an der Gusen and Langenstein.

After the war, parts of the camp buildings were used privately or by companies.
The site with the remaining buildings never served as a memorial.

Today the original building structure could still be seen.

The Audiowalk Gusen is an art project conceived by Christoph Mayer chm. I visit the place for the first time together with the artist.
You walk with a headset through the village. A voice navigates you through the streets, explaining the history of this place and you listen to the voices of survivors of the concentration camp and inhabitants of the village.

If you want to know something about the ambivalence of a place, this audiowalk is an impressive experience.

A place can't forget his history.
