Göbekli Tepe - The oldest known temple of mankind
Photographs from the excavation site Göbekli Tepe (17 photographs).
Göbekli Tepe is an excavation site in southeastern Turkey near the city of Sanliurfa.
It is the oldest known temple of mankind. The T-shaped pillars are 11000 years old, predating Stonehenge by 6000 years.
For me this was one of the most interesting assignments. I was very lucky, that archeologist Klaus Schmidt offered me the opportunity to work during the night hours on the excavation site to illuminate the whole site.
With my light technique it was possible to show the carvings on the pillars and the craftsmanship of the stone age people.
Infos on Göbekli Tepe and the work of Klaus Schmidt in german you can find here.
Infos in english you can find here and here.
The photographs have been published in many publications like GEO, Smithsonian Magazine, GEO France, Archaeology and on the cover of the book by Klaus Schmidt.
